It is pretty common to be afraid of something. Some people may be afraid of failure while there are also some people who are afraid of spiders. Whatever the case may be, you are not doing yourself a favor by letting this fear last long. It is a good thing there are several ways to conquer your fear. Here are some of them:
1. Face It
Write it down and find ways to overcome it. You must admit it to the people you love and let them help you with it. It would be no use to ignore it because you know you will encounter it one way or the other in the future. For example, if you are afraid of heights, then you can ride Ferris wheels and get used to them. You can even work on a floor at a high-rise building just to get used to it. It won’t be long before that fear will disappear because you were able to overcome it. Accept that it is there and you won’t make it go away unless you do something about it.
One common fear is speaking in front of many people. This can be eliminated by practising a lot. You can speak of so many people at small gatherings first until you feel comfortable doing it. The more you practice doing this, the bigger chances you have of perfecting it. As they say, practice makes perfect. A lot of professional athletes earn a lot of money nowadays because of how they love to practice at home. They beat out similarly talented players who don’t practice as often as them.
3. Do a Little Research
There is a fear of not knowing enough so it would be awesome if you educate yourself about the facts of life. If you have a fast Internet connection, it won’t take long to do so. You just need to Google the needed keywords and you will be directed to websites that will fill you with all you need to know. It would be awesome to learn something new each day. Knowledge is something you can’t pay for. When you learn a lot of things in life, you will be able to share it to the people you love. In addition, you won’t be able to live with it forever.
4. Be with Fun People
It would be awesome to have a supportive group of friends. When they find out you are afraid of something, they will push you to overcome it. For example, if they find out your fear of ghosts, they may even go to a haunted house with you. Those friends are hard to find so you should not let them go when you finally meet some good people. It is true that it will take a while to know their true attitude though. Thus, better be patient and it will be worth it in the end.
5. Join a Support Group
There are support groups for a common fear. There will be someone who will moderate the group and each one will speak about his or her experiences. It would be advisable to speak out so you will get to voice out your frustration. When you hear other people share with how they dealt with their fear, you are going to learn something too. In fact, what they did can also be helpful to you. When you feel that you finally overcame your fear, that is when you can leave the support group. Besides, you can’t stay with them forever and they are only here to help one another.
It is no secret that facing your fear won’t be something a lot of people would want to do. There is even a TV show called fear factor and people are forced to do pretty scary things just to win the game. When someone does not feel like doing it, they are quickly eliminated in an elimination style process until there is only one remaining. The bottom line is it is not healthy to be afraid of something. It may drive you nuts when you experience it each day. It would be better to overcome it using a variety of methods. When that happens, your fear of whatever it is
